Tracer gas methods

Methods

Tracer gas helium

The Helium molecule is the smallest of the noble gases. It allows for clean, very sensitive and, most importantly, non-destructive testing.
Method of leak detection at very high sensitivity. Its principle leverages IP mass spectrometry calibrated on helium. Three modes: overhead (global or localized), test (global) vacuum and sniffing test (global or localized). This technique is generally used for applications with high sensitivity (10 Pa.m / s to 10 Pa.m / s). Helium is an approved food additive.

Tracer gas hydrogen

The Hydrogen gas is the less expensive tracer gas, allowing flexible testing procedures for Leak Detection. Fast and accurate localization, the Hydrogen leak detectors bring the efficient solution for a large range of applications either in production, on the field, repair lines and maintenance.

Its principle leverages IP an electronic sensor sensitive to hydrogen. The tracer gas used was a mixture of harmless hydrogen and nitrogen 5% to 95%. Two possible test modes: sniffing and accumulation. This technique is especially designed for industrial or field (distribution of fluids). This method is intended for applications in which a moderate sensitivity (1 Pa.m / s to 10 Pa.m / s) will be required. Given the low cost of the tracer gas H / N and the high selectivity of some sensors, this method finds its way into many applications in production and maintenance / repair.
Many manufacturing processes involve hydrogen in such a concentration (more than a few%) that it is possible to control operations during the sealing operation of the process or during a period of operation without having slowed to completely stop the installation to fill the gas tracer. This method has been implemented with success in the oil refining industry.
Hydrogen and nitrogen are food additives, they can be put in contact with food.

Warning : This gas might be restricted to be used upon your country regulation,.
For applications in refrigeration and air conditioning for which the gas is already inside of components which one seeks to measure the leakage.
